Rehabilitation for a car accident is almost always going to be a long and steady road. Especially when you consider how a car accident can be a life-altering event, leaving individuals with a range of physical injuries. The road to recovery often involves a comprehensive rehabilitation process.

That’s why PRO Therapy in Minneapolis is dedicated to helping patients regain their strength, mobility, and overall well-being.

Rehabilitation after a car accident requires a systematic approach designed to restore function, reduce pain, and improve quality of life after an injury. It often depends on the severity but, for car accident victims, this process typically involves a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals.

At PRO Therapy, our experienced physical therapists develop personalized treatment plans to address specific needs that form part of that process.

Improving your range of motion, strengthening weakened muscles, and reducing pain are often the focal points of these treatment plans. Inflammation, enhancing balance and coordination are also essential components of physical therapy. These techniques help individuals regain their ability to perform daily activities and participate in recreational pursuits.

Restoring functional mobility is a key goal of physical therapy. By addressing impairments in strength, flexibility, and coordination, physical therapists help individuals regain the ability to move independently and perform tasks of daily living.

Common Injuries Requiring Rehabilitation

Car accidents can result in a wide range of injuries. Whiplash is a common neck injury that occurs when the head is suddenly jerked forward and backward, often resulting in pain, stiffness, and headaches.

Soft tissue injuries, such as sprains and strains, can affect muscles, tendons, and ligaments. These injuries can cause pain, swelling, and limited range of motion.

Traumatic brain injuries can have severe consequences, affecting cognitive function, memory, and movement. Rehabilitation after a car accident could play an important role in helping a person gain control over the legs again.

Orthopedic Injuries Require Rehabilitation After Car Accidents

These injuries can include fractures, dislocations, and strains. Fractures, or broken bones, often require casting, and eventually physical therapy to help regain some muscle strength. Dislocations occur when joints are forced out of their normal position, causing pain, instability, and loss of function.

Sprains involve overstretched ligaments, leading to pain, swelling, and bruising. Strains, on the other hand, involve overstretched or torn muscles, causing pain, weakness, and limited range of motion.

Spinal cord injuries can result in partial or complete paralysis, affecting mobility, sensation, and bowel and bladder function. All of these things will need some form of recovery physical therapy to help your body heal effectively.

Car accidents can cause severe injuries to the limbs. Nerve damage is another common consequence of car accidents. When nerves are injured, they may not function properly, leading to numbness, tingling, weakness, and pain. The severity of nerve damage can vary, and recovery time can be lengthy.

In severe cases where the limb is irreparably damaged or blood flow is compromised, amputation may be necessary to save the patient’s life. In that case, it would require a different approach to your physical therapy.

Great recovery from neck and shoulder focus! Thank you for care!!

My experience with Grace was wonderful. I saw her for pelvic floor therapy and some general physical therapy and hip mobility. She listened very well to my concerns, was very educational and helped me understand why I was doing the exercises I was doing. I would highly recommend Grace and Pro Therapy.

Grace helped me strengthen my core to the point where my back feels so much better. She gave me excercises that I can do at home that don't require gym equipment.

Since my treatment, pain and mobility have greatly improved. Very appreciative of all the help.

I had two different doctors working with me and both were very good. They listen, have you try different moves, and are able to proceed to plan.

Excellent place with great people. Go to this place.
Dr. Lily met me where I was (post a major surgery and really weak - like barely able to stand/walk) with respect and accommodation. I was always challenged but at a safe pace. It took me a few months to see it, but they were working on the long game all the time and it paid off. I'm really happy with my recovery.

*p.s. - Don't be intimidated by the super hulk weight machines. I kinda was but almost nobody uses those. They utilize all sorts of un-intimidating equipment. Also, the location seems odd at first but it turns out to be very convenient.

I'll go back if I ever need more PT. 100%

I found PRO Therapy shortly after tearing my ACL at the beginning of the year. From the Pre-Op PT, to now 7 months post op and 50+ appointments, I could not be happier with where Dr. Kelvyn and Dr. Lily have gotten me back to. I highly recommend PRO to anyone looking for PT in the Twin Cities!

I self referred myself to PRO Therapy because of the 5 star rating and I'm so glad I did!

Dr. Kelvyn and Jen were so easy to work. Everyone I saw at the office was very nice too. I worked on my hips and shoulders this year and feel confident I can continue making progress post "graduation" because of the knowledge and exercises that Dr. Kelvyn shared with me!

Overall, I would highly recommend. Thank you PRO Therapy for a great experience 🙂
