Elbow Pain
Elbow pain is often caused by overuse or injury. So many activities, sports, hobbies, and jobs we do every day require repetitive hand, wrist, or arm movements. This leaves our elbows at risk for injuries or problems with bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, or joints
Signs and symptoms can indicate if there’s an issue with the elbow, like pain, stiffness, weakness, sensation, deformity, and swelling.
Elbow Pain Causes
Getting to the bottom of what’s causing your elbow pain is key to creating the best treatment plan for you. Here’s what may be causing your elbow discomfort:
Gout – A type of arthritis that can affect the elbow joint when acid builds up in the body and forms needle-shaped crystals in the joint.
Repetitive Strain Injury – Damage and pain are caused by repeating the same motion over and over.
Burstisis – Painful swelling of the fluid-filled pads, called bursae, that act as cushions at the joints.
Elbow Pain Treatment
Our physical therapists, all fully licensed Doctors of Physical Therapy, use a range of techniques to relieve your elbow pain, including Manual Therapies
Manual Therapy
Joint mobilization
Gentle movements to improve mobility in areas that are restricted, restoring normal joint mechanics and reducing stiffness.
Soft tissue mobilization
Techniques like massage and myofascial release may be used to release tension in muscles, ligaments and fascia focused around the knee.
Trigger point therapy
We provide targeted pressure to alleviate muscle tension and improve function.
Hand & Wrist Treatment Techniques
Dry needling/electrical stimulation
Using needles and electrical impulses to release knotted muscles or trigger points.
Kinesiotaping
Kinesiotaping supports and stabilizes muscles and joints using a specialized elastic tape. It’s applied directly to the skin over muscles or joints in specific patterns to provide support without restricting movement.
Graston Technique
Therapists use stainless steel instruments to find and work out tight spots and scar tissue in your muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
