Ankle & Foot Pain

Going about daily chores, driving to the store, commuting, or simply moving around the house with foot and/or ankle pain can cause torment and frustration. It may also keep you from the sports and active leisure you love. It can be especially frustrating when you have no idea exactly what’s causing the pain

Foot and ankle pain are typically assessed together because when you have discomfort, pain or injury in that area both the ankle and foot can be affected. Thankfully most pain in the ankle or foot is usually short term and are caused by soft tissue injuries, such as sprain and strains.

We at PRO Therapy understand the mechanics of ankle and foot pain, how to identify the cause and most importantly – how to make it stop.

Common Causes of Ankle & Foot Pain

Getting to the bottom of what’s bothering your ankle and foot pain is key to creating the best treatment plan for you. In addition to pain, other signs and symptoms can indicate if there’s an issue with the ankle or foot, like:

  • Swelling or stiffness around the ankle
  • Pain when putting weight on your foot
  • Weakness or instability
  • Bruising around the ankle extending onto foot
  • Difficulty pushing off with toes
Ankle Sprains/Strains – Inversion ankle sprains are the most common sports injury and are caused by twisting the foot inward.

Achilles Tendon – A sprain is caused by stretching or tearing ligaments while a strain is caused by stretching or tearing a muscle or tendon.

Ankle Fractures – Often linked to repetitive stress on the tendon. Often causes pain, stiffness, and swelling in the back of your leg near your heel.

Overuse & Footwear – Poor footwear can also impact the ankle and feet in many ways. It leaves you vulnerable to injury, pain, and discomfort not only in the ankles and feet but legs, knees and hips as well.

    Ankle & Foot Pain Treatment

Our physical therapists, all fully licensed Doctors of Physical Therapy, use a range of techniques to relieve your knee pain and restore mobility

    Manual Therapy

    Joint mobilization
Gentle movements to improve mobility in areas that are restricted, restoring normal joint mechanics and reducing stiffness.

    Soft tissue mobilization
Techniques like massage and myofascial release may be used to release tension in muscles, ligaments and fascia focused around the knee.

    Trigger point therapy
We provide targeted pressure to alleviate muscle tension and improve function.

    Knee Treatment Techniques

    Dry needling/electrical stimulation
Using needles and electrical impulses to release knotted muscles or trigger points.

    Kinesiotaping
Kinesiotaping supports and stabilizes muscles and joints using a specialized elastic tape. It’s applied directly to the skin over muscles or joints in specific patterns to provide support without restricting movement.

    Graston Technique
Therapists use stainless steel instruments to find and work out tight spots and scar tissue in your muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

    Therapeutic Interventions

    Custom Rehab Programs
We’ll whip up a personalized rehab program to strengthen the muscle supporting the knee, improve your flexibility, and provide more stability.

    Gait Training
We focus on improving walking mechanics, balance, and coordination.

    Functional Training
We pay special attention to simulating real-life movements to improve overall function and performance.

Activity modification and return to sport
We help you carefully and gradually progress your activity level to reduce the risk of re-injury.

    Great place!

I had a great experience at PRO therapy. It’s a great mix of body work and exercise. It isn’t “a printout of your exercises and come back in two weeks” place. You do all the exercises in the gym with them each session so you know the correct form and how to do them on your own. I have really improved in my strength and my day to day pain has significantly reduced over my time there. My main PT was Dr. Kelvyn and he was great to work with. Very supportive and encouraging. He met me where I was at and didn’t make me feel bad if I couldn’t complete something. If I wanted to be seen but couldn’t get onto his schedule, I saw one of the other PTs and they were all equally great. It was seamless to work with someone else for the day. Jen and the other front desk staff were always very friendly and very helpful. I would highly recommend getting your physical therapy done here.

I worked with Dr. Kelvyn here for over a year and a half on multiple lower body injuries (ankle, knee, hip, lower back). He is the best physical therapist I’ve ever worked with, and unfortunately I’ve had the misfortune of working with a lot of PTs in my lifetime. I appreciated that he really listened to what I was coming in and describing feeling to him each session, and then he tailored the exercises we did together and the exercises he prescribed to do at home based on what I reported at the beginning of our session. He also did a good job of adjusting my at home exercises to my needs and preferences. Can’t recommend Dr. Kelvyn or PRO Therapy enough!

My experience with Grace was wonderful. I saw her for pelvic floor therapy and some general physical therapy and hip mobility. She listened very well to my concerns, was very educational and helped me understand why I was doing the exercises I was doing. I would highly recommend Grace and Pro Therapy.

Grace helped me strengthen my core to the point where my back feels so much better. She gave me excercises that I can do at home that don't require gym equipment.

I had two different doctors working with me and both were very good. They listen, have you try different moves, and are able to proceed to plan.

Excellent place with great people. Go to this place.
Dr. Lily met me where I was (post a major surgery and really weak - like barely able to stand/walk) with respect and accommodation. I was always challenged but at a safe pace. It took me a few months to see it, but they were working on the long game all the time and it paid off. I'm really happy with my recovery.

*p.s. - Don't be intimidated by the super hulk weight machines. I kinda was but almost nobody uses those. They utilize all sorts of un-intimidating equipment. Also, the location seems odd at first but it turns out to be very convenient.

I'll go back if I ever need more PT. 100%
