What this means for you

Whether you’re preparing for childbirth, recovering postpartum, navigating the demands of an active lifestyle, or experiencing the changes of menopause, your body deserves expert care.

At PRO Therapy, we understand that women’s health concerns shouldn’t hold you back from living your life to the fullest. Our doctoral-level physical therapists specialize in pelvic health, providing the expert, personalized care you deserve across all stages of life.

The PRO Therapy care you know, now with pelvic health expertise.

“I fractured 3 transverse spinal processes in November 2025 and had a C section baby 3 days later. I was in quite a bit of pain with very limited mobility, and about a month after the injury, started physical therapy to ensure I could heal well and run again.

Dr. Lily helped me both heal and get my back moving again, as well as some pelvic floor exercises since even though I had a C section, I had pelvic floor pain after being pregnant. After a few months, we tapered off appointments and I have sucessfully been able to run, do yoga, lift weights, and return to normal daily life again with no pain!

They were very conveniently located in NE Minneapolis near me, and had great scheduling availability. I’d go again!”

What to Expect at Your First Visit

We know it can feel intimidating to start pelvic health physical therapy and at PRO Therapy, your comfort, privacy, and goals come first. You can expect a safe and supportive environment with all sessions one-on-one in a private space with a Doctor of Physical Therapy who specializes in women’s health.

At your first appointment, here’s what typically happens during your evaluation:

Conversation & Listening
We’ll start by talking about your history, current symptoms, and your goals. Whether it’s leaking when you run, discomfort after childbirth, or changes during menopause — we listen first.

Whole-Body Assessment
We look at posture, breathing, core, hips, and back — not just the pelvic floor. This helps us understand how your whole body is working together.

Pelvic Floor Examination (If Appropriate)
With your consent, we may perform an internal or external pelvic floor exam to better understand how your muscles are functioning. We’ll always explain each step, and you’ll decide what you’re comfortable with.

Personalized Plan of Care
You’ll leave with a clear plan — from education and home exercises to hands-on therapy and guided progressions — tailored to your needs.

Ongoing Sessions
Each session is about empowering you — reducing symptoms, restoring function, and building long-term confidence in your body. As you progress, we’ll adjust your plan to help you reach the activities that matter most, whether that’s running, lifting your kids, or simply living without worry.

Common Questions About Women’s Health Therapy in Minneapolis

Is pelvic floor physical therapy painful?

Treatment should never be painful. We work within your comfort level and always respect your boundaries. Many patients find relief from their first session.

Do I need a referral?

Minnesota allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can schedule directly with us. We can also work with referrals from your doctor, OB/GYN, or other healthcare providers.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows for easy movement. We’ll provide specific guidance when you schedule.

How long does treatment take?

Every person is different, but many patients see improvements within the first few visits. We’ll discuss realistic timelines based on your specific condition and goals.

Do you accept my insurance?

We work with most insurance plans and offer transparent cash-pay options. Our team will help verify your benefits and explain your coverage.

Can pelvic health physical therapy help if I haven’t had kids?

Absolutely. While postpartum recovery is a common reason women seek pelvic PT, many women who have never been pregnant also benefit. Pelvic health PT can address leakage during exercise, chronic pelvic pain, hip or back discomfort, and changes related to aging or activity.

At PRO Therapy, we support women in every stage of life, with or without kids.

Is pelvic PT helpful during menopause?
Yes. Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can affect the pelvic floor, bladder, and core strength. Many women experience new symptoms like urgency, leakage, or discomfort.

Pelvic health physical therapy provides strategies to restore strength, improve confidence, and help you stay active and supported through these transitions.

Can physical therapy help with leakage when I run, sneeze, or cough?
Yes! Stress incontinence (leakage with activity, sneezing, or coughing) is one of the most common issues we treat.

Our doctors of physical therapy use evidence-based techniques to improve pelvic floor coordination, core strength, and breathing strategies so you can return to running, exercise, and daily life without worry.

Does pelvic physical therapy help with painful intimacy or pelvic pain?
It can. Pelvic floor dysfunction may contribute to pain during intercourse, chronic pelvic pain, or discomfort with daily activities.

Through gentle hands-on therapy, education, and individualized exercises, pelvic PT can reduce pain, improve muscle coordination, and restore comfort and confidence.

How is PRO Therapy different from other pelvic health clinics?
At PRO Therapy, you’ll work with a Doctor of Physical Therapy trained in both pelvic health and orthopedic care. That means we treat the whole body: hips, core, spine, and movement patterns, not just the pelvic floor.

Every session is one-on-one in a private space, focused entirely on your goals. We also partner with OB/GYNs, doulas, and other providers across the Twin Cities, making us a trusted resource for women’s health care in our community.

Will my sessions be private?
Yes. All pelvic health sessions at PRO Therapy are one-on-one with your physical therapist in a private treatment space.

We’ll always explain each step of care, respect your boundaries, and ensure you feel safe, comfortable, and empowered throughout your visits.

Ready to Reclaim Your Confidence?

Don’t let pelvic health concerns keep you from the activities and life you love. Whether you’re recovering postpartum, navigating changes during menopause, or simply looking to move with strength and confidence, our doctoral-level physical therapists are here to support you.

The PRO Therapy has great people that are very knowledgeable, respectful and friendly whose utmost interest is their patient's wellbeing. That was my experience with PRO Therapy. I was able to openly talk about my fears and asked lots of questions which they listened patiently and attentively and responded in an utmost professionalism. I have come a long way from the time of my first therapy, I am doing very well now, and I am so grateful to PRO Therapy for their best treatment administered to me and the excellent and professional way I was treated.

I've had PT in many locations from many different providers. ProTherapy is the most upbeat group of EXPERT DPTs that will motivate, guide, and support you as you regain strength, flexibility or wherever you may be on your journey to greater health. And they are FUN!!
ProTherapy has been a great partner for me through back and knee rehab along with pre- and post- hip replacement care. ProTherapy rocks!

Dr. Lily is my PT hero! It's hard to say goodbye after so many issues addressed. But time to head out on my own knowing that ProTherapy will be there for me should I need them again.

Thanks again to my ProTherapy PT family!

Thank you, Pro Therapy, for excellent service and guidance for my left hip injuries. What a difference I am experiencing after dry needling, the targeted exercises, and lately the fantastic Stem Wave therapy. Special shout-out to Dr. Lilly.

PRO Therapy is the absolute BEST. I had shoulder pain/arm tingling/arm numbness in my left arm and was able to make everything go away within 4 weeks! The staff is incredibly friendly. I worked with Dr. Lily, who was PHENOMINAL. She was very caring and attentive to my questions and concerns. If I ever need physical therapy help again, I will be going back! Highly recommend!

I worked with Dr Kelvyn on my ankle and he was excellent. Very attentive and good at changing/adding exercises as needed. He went above and beyond by adjusting my exercises to my desired activities. Extremely positive experience overall.

I worked with Dr. Lily from January to July following a bad car accident and I can't recommend her enough!! From day one, she was incredibly friendly, supportive, and truly listened to what I was going through. She customized a workout and recovery plan that evolved with me every step of the way, making sure it suited my needs and progress.

She also introduced me to cupping and dry needling, both of which were completely new to me, and was extremely patient and reassuring, especially knowing I was nervous about needles. Thanks to her care and dedication, I’ve seen some improvement in my back, neck, and legs.

If you’re looking for someone who’s highly skilled, compassionate, and genuinely committed to helping you heal, Dr. Lily is the one to see! 🙂 Thank you!!

I have been a client of PRO Therapy since 2019 and each time I have received the best of care from the doctors I have seen. Every team member here cares about the individual and the best approach to healing. I try to deal with my pain issues with out drugs as much as possible and the care I receive from the therapists at PRO Therapy is the best. I highly recommend their services. Most recently I injured my right shoulder and arm from pulling weeds and waited too long to address the pain and limitations I was experiencing. The Stemwave non-invasive medical treatment that I have received in the past 3 weeks along with PT from one of the doctors has brought tremendous relief and is allowing me to get back to normal day to day activities. If you are looking for a clinic that treats you with respect and care as well as addressing your pain issues, don’t go any where else, PRO Therapy is your place!

My experience with Pro Therapy, and Dr. Lily Anderson was awesome. I had let my injury get to the point where it was disruptive not only to my training but daily life. Dr. Lily helped me set goals for each week, and I started to see improvement weekly! Now I have the tools and knowledge to maintain my recovery. So grateful for Dr. Lily and Pro Therapy.

Dr. Lily was incredibly helpful in diagnosing and treating my knee pain! She was always so receptive to my feedback and incredibly accommodating to wherever I was at in my rehab journey. Her exercises and guidance have me pain-free after just a couple months, cannot recommend highly enough!
