Knee Pain Management

Knee problems are one of the most common orthopedic complaints for people of all ages. When you’re dealing with knee pain, it can be a frustrating and debilitating experience just trying to walk around the house, drive to the store, or spend time with family.
This is true for both acute, sudden knee pain and chronic knee pain that builds over time. If you are struggling with knee problems then it’s time to see a physical therapist.

The most common Knee Pain Causes

Getting to the bottom of what’s bothering your knee is key to creating the best treatment plan for you. In addition to pain, other signs and symptoms can indicate if there’s an issue with the knee, like:

  • Swelling and stiffness
  • Redness and warmth to the touch
  • Weakness or instability
  • Popping or crunching noises
  • Inability to fully straighten the knee

Whether you need a physical therapist for an ACL tear, or a meniscus tear, we can help. In fact, any physical therapy for chronic knee pain can be addressed at one of our Minneapolis-based physical therapy clinics.

    Treatment for Knee Pain

When you need to find a physical therapist for knee pain, Our physical therapists, all fully licensed Doctors of Physical Therapy, use a range of techniques to help relieve knee pain and restore mobility

    Manual Therapy

    Joint mobilization
Gentle movements to improve mobility in areas that are restricted, restoring normal joint mechanics and reducing stiffness.

    Soft tissue mobilization
Techniques like massage and myofascial release may be used to release tension in muscles, ligaments and fascia focused around the knee.

    Trigger point therapy
We provide targeted pressure to alleviate muscle tension and improve function.

    Knee Treatment Techniques

    Dry needling/electrical stimulation
Using needles and electrical impulses to release knotted muscles or trigger points.

    Kinesiotaping
Kinesiotaping supports and stabilizes muscles and joints using a specialized elastic tape. It’s applied directly to the skin over muscles or joints in specific patterns to provide support without restricting movement.

    Graston Technique
Therapists use stainless steel instruments to find and work out tight spots and scar tissue in your muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

    Therapeutic Interventions

    Custom Rehab Programs
We’ll whip up a personalized rehab program to strengthen the muscle supporting the knee, improve your flexibility, and provide more stability.

    Gait Training
We focus on improving walking mechanics, balance, and coordination.

    Functional Training
We pay special attention to simulating real-life movements to improve overall function and performance.

Activity modification and return to sport
We help you carefully and gradually progress your activity level to reduce the risk of re-injury.

    Custom Orthotics
Sometimes we recommend shoe inserts for support and alignment.

Brooke is incredibly knowledgeable and personable. She listens and works with you and uses your experience and knowledge of yourself and your body as a guide to get great results. This has been the most collaborative PT experience I’ve ever had, in the best way possible. I can’t recommend her and PRO therapy enough.

Working with Lily at the Northeast clinic was awesome! I worked with her for over a year rehabbing a knee issue. She was very patient with me and worked at my pace, but would push me when she knew I could handle it. She was professional, yet a joy to work with. I will be recommending Lily and the NE clinic to anyone I know! (Mark B)

Highly recommend Lily Anderson! I'm a runner and I've done *a lot* of physical therapy at a lot of different practices. PRO Therapy stands apart because of how easy it is to schedule appointments compared to larger health systems. Lily is also always accessible by email and, unlike PTs I've had at larger health systems, always responded to my emails promptly and with substantive advice. I appreciate Lily's strength focused approach and targeted use of manual therapies, and how she made sure to inquire about adequate fueling and other injury risk factors. While I hope I won't be back soon, as a runner I know I'll need PT help again at some point. When I do, I won't hesitate to go back to Lily at PRO Therapy.
