Neck Pain
We all experience neck pain from time to time – sometimes you sleep wrong, move your head too fast or overuse.
For some, the pain never goes away and causes continuous headaches. It can flare up while sitting for long periods of time, exercising, playing with your kids or while trying to do the sports you love. No matter what symptoms you’re experiencing, there is help. Our team at PRO Therapy can help you find the root cause.
Neck Pain Causes
Getting to the bottom of what’s bothering your neck is key to creating the best treatment plan for you. In addition to pain, other signs and symptoms can indicate if there’s an issue with your neck, like:
- Persistent ache or stiffness in the neck
- Shooting pain from neck to shoulders or arms
- Headaches
- Difficulty turning the neck
- Numbness or tingling in shoulders, arms or fingers
Neck Sprain / Strain
This usually comes from everyday activities with poor posture, working at a desk for too long without change, sleeping with your neck in a bad position or wrong movement during an exercise.
Herniated Disc
Usually caused by excessive strain or trauma to the sprain.
Sleeping in an Uncomfortable Position
Neck pain or stiffness can be attributed to sleeping in an awkward position.
Motor Vehicle Accidents
Strained, torn, or stretched cervical ligaments can cause ongoing neck pain after a wreck. Even if time has passed and it doesn’t seem related, letting your provider know of any motor vehicle accident history is important.
Whiplash Injury
A neck injury that occurs when the neck is forced to bend forward and then backward, or vice versa.

Neck Pain Treatment Techniques
Our team of physical therapists, all fully licensed Doctors of Physical Therapy, have a bunch of tricks up their sleeves to ease your neck pain and get you moving again:
Manual Therapy
Joint mobilization
We use gentle movements to restore normal joint mechanics and reduce stiffness.
Soft tissue mobilization
We also use techniques like massage and myofascial release to release tension in muscles and fascia.
Trigger point therapy
We provide targeted pressure to alleviate muscle tension and improve function.
Neck Treatment Techniques
Dry Needling
This therapy uses needles to release knotted muscles or trigger points. Sometimes accompanied by electrical stimulation, using carefully controlled electrical pulses to ease muscle tension and dial down pain.
Kinesiotaping
Kinesiotaping supports and stabilizes muscles and joints using a specialized elastic tape. It’s applied directly to the skin over muscles or joints in specific patterns to provide support without restricting movement.
Graston Technique
Therapists use stainless steel instruments to find and work out tight spots and scar tissue in your muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Therapeutic Interventions
Custom Rehab Programs
We create personalized rehab plans to strengthen your muscles, boost your flexibility, and help you straighten up your posture.
Functional training
We pay special attention to simulating real-life movements to improve overall function and performance.
Activity modification and return to sport

If you’re suffering from neck pain and stiffness, it’s easy to hope that it will go away on its own. You might think you just slept awkwardly, or it’s just a spasm, or that everyone your age has neck pain.
If you’re experiencing neck pain and don’t know what caused it, everything you’ve tried isn’t working and you’re fed up – you’ve come to the right place. As a matter of fact, general neck pain and sciatica are the most common concerns that we hear about at PRO Therapy.
The difference between seeing one of our physical therapists and seeing your primary care doctor or another type of provider is that a Doctor of Physical Therapy is more specialized in assessing causes of pain and stiffness.
In just a couple of sessions, we can often dial down your pain and stiffness and get you feeling better fast.
