For too long, pelvic health issues have been accepted as an inevitable consequence of pregnancy, childbirth, or even an active lifestyle. At PRO Therapy in Minneapolis and Coon Rapids, we offer the specialized Physical Therapy pelvic health expertise to address these challenges head-on.

Our doctoral-level physical therapists focus on the musculoskeletal system to successfully treat the unique pelvic floor and core conditions experienced by active women and new mothers (whether recently postpartum or years later). We work closely with your entire care team, including Doulas and Gynecologists, ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated approach to your health journey.

Specialized Pelvic Health Physical Therapy Services

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy is a specialized branch of orthopedics. Treatment involves a holistic, whole-body approach that looks at alignment, movement patterns, and the function of the deep core system.

Core Conditions and Symptoms We Treat with PT:

Urinary Incontinence: Stress incontinence (leakage with running, jumping, coughing, or sneezing) and urge incontinence (sudden, intense urges and frequency).

Diastasis Recti Abdominis (DRA): Therapeutic strategies to help close the abdominal separation and restore core integrity.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP): Symptom management, strengthening, and pressure management techniques to reduce the feeling of heaviness or a “bulge.”

Chronic Pain Syndromes: Persistent pelvic pain, lower back pain, hip pain, or pain during sexual activity (Dyspareunia).

Bowel Dysfunction: Addressing constipation, straining, and fecal incontinence through muscle re-education.

Women’s Health Focus: Specialized PT for Active Lifestyles

  1. Postpartum and Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

We provide the crucial bridge from medical clearance back to full activity.

Customized Core and Pelvic Floor Strengthening: Progressive exercise programs, often using biofeedback, to restore muscle strength, endurance, and coordination after pregnancy or surgery.

Scar Tissue Mobility: Manual therapy and soft tissue mobilization techniques to treat C-section and perineal scars, addressing pain and restrictions that can affect core function.

Safe Return-to-Activity Testing: Objective assessment and a structured, multi-phase plan to guide the transition back to high-impact exercise, running, or lifting without symptoms.

  1. Antenatal Comfort and Musculoskeletal Support

We address orthopedic and joint pain related to pregnancy and prepare the body biomechanically for birth.

Pelvic Girdle Pain Management: Treatment for pain in the hips, pubic bone (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction), and lower back (Sacroiliac Joint Pain) using manual therapy and corrective exercises.

Body Mechanics and Posture Education: Guidance on positioning for common daily tasks (lifting, feeding) to prevent muscle strain and injury during and after pregnancy.

Labor Preparation and Pushing Strategies: Education on pelvic floor relaxation techniques and optimal birthing positions to promote comfort and reduce the risk of perineal trauma.

  1. Comprehensive Manual Therapy

We utilize highly skilled, hands-on techniques to resolve pain and dysfunction.

Internal and External Musculoskeletal Assessment (with consent): The most effective way to accurately diagnose muscle tension, weakness, and coordination issues within the pelvic floor.

Trigger Point and Myofascial Release: Targeted manual techniques to alleviate tension in the muscles of the pelvic floor, hips, and abdomen, which are often the cause of chronic pain and urgency.

Dr. Lily has provided patient and caring physical therapy for a few different injuries I've had. She is always helpful, open, and pays attention to the various issues that come with being an older woman. I also appreciate that she is always on time and that the support staff is wonderful.

Dr. Kelvyn was a delight to work with. He was extremely helpful in identifying specific areas that needed strengthening and I started to feel the impacts of his suggested exercises very quickly!

I have seen Dr. Kelvyn for a couple of injuries and he has done a fantastic job helping to improve and resolve those pain and mobility issues. Jen at the front desk is always kind and welcoming and wonderful. I would highly recommend this business for anyone's physical therapy needs.

My experience at Pro Therapy was phenomenal! Grace listened to my issues and I felt like she really cared that I get relief from my bursitis in my right hip. By targeting the area of concern with very specific exercises and doing a few dry needling sessions, she significantly reduced my hip pain in only 6 weeks! I will definitely be recommending Pro Therapy to anyone I know that needs any kind of physical therapy! Thank you!!

Great place!

I had a great experience at PRO therapy. It’s a great mix of body work and exercise. It isn’t “a printout of your exercises and come back in two weeks” place. You do all the exercises in the gym with them each session so you know the correct form and how to do them on your own. I have really improved in my strength and my day to day pain has significantly reduced over my time there. My main PT was Dr. Kelvyn and he was great to work with. Very supportive and encouraging. He met me where I was at and didn’t make me feel bad if I couldn’t complete something. If I wanted to be seen but couldn’t get onto his schedule, I saw one of the other PTs and they were all equally great. It was seamless to work with someone else for the day. Jen and the other front desk staff were always very friendly and very helpful. I would highly recommend getting your physical therapy done here.

I worked with Dr. Kelvyn here for over a year and a half on multiple lower body injuries (ankle, knee, hip, lower back). He is the best physical therapist I’ve ever worked with, and unfortunately I’ve had the misfortune of working with a lot of PTs in my lifetime. I appreciated that he really listened to what I was coming in and describing feeling to him each session, and then he tailored the exercises we did together and the exercises he prescribed to do at home based on what I reported at the beginning of our session. He also did a good job of adjusting my at home exercises to my needs and preferences. Can’t recommend Dr. Kelvyn or PRO Therapy enough!

My experience with Grace was wonderful. I saw her for pelvic floor therapy and some general physical therapy and hip mobility. She listened very well to my concerns, was very educational and helped me understand why I was doing the exercises I was doing. I would highly recommend Grace and Pro Therapy.
