Don’t Wait for the Pain: Why Your First Stop After a Car Accident Should Be Physical Therapy

The moments after a car accident are often stressful and confusing. After ensuring everyone is safe and exchanging information, your attention naturally turns to visible damage and immediate pain. While these are important, there is a crucial, proactive step many people overlook that can significantly impact their long-term recovery: calling a physical therapist.

Beyond the Obvious Pain: Recognizing Hidden Injuries

It’s common to feel “fine” or experience only minor discomfort immediately after a collision. However, the force of an impact can cause a range of injuries that may not present symptoms for hours or even days. Whiplash, for example, is a common neck injury that can lead to delayed pain, headaches, and stiffness. Similarly, soft tissue injuries like muscle strains and ligament sprains in your back and shoulders can be masked by adrenaline.

This is why a proactive approach is essential—to address your discomfort and prevent these subtle injuries from developing into chronic problems.

The PRO Therapy Advantage: Immediate and Proactive Care

Contacting PRO Therapy early offers a number of key benefits that go beyond simply treating pain. A physical therapist is an expert in restoring movement and function, and we can help you right away.

Immediate Pain Relief: Our physical therapists are skilled in assessing the source of your pain and using gentle techniques, such as manual therapy and therapeutic exercises, to provide immediate relief for muscle spasms and reduce inflammation.

Comprehensive Evaluation: We can detect subtle movement restrictions and muscle imbalances that might indicate underlying soft tissue damage or early signs of whiplash, even before the pain becomes severe.

Personalized Treatment Plans: You’ll receive a tailored treatment plan designed to address your specific injuries, pain levels, and functional goals. This might include exercises to improve your range of motion and strengthen weakened muscles.

Restoring Function: Our primary goal is to help you return to your normal activities and prevent long-term complications. By addressing stiffness and limitations early, we can get you back to feeling like yourself again.

Physical therapists are experts in treating a wide range of non-surgical injuries from car accidents, including:

Whiplash – A neck injury caused by a sudden, forceful jolt of the head. Common signs include a sore neck and persistent headache, especially at the base of the skull.

Muscle Strains and Sprains – Damage to muscles or ligaments resulting from overstretching or tearing. You’ll most likely see swelling, bruising, and a limited range of motion in the affected area, along with pain and tenderness.

General Back Pain – Aching or stiffness in the back, often stemming from muscle, ligament, or disk issues. You may feel a burning or tingling sensation that radiates down into the legs or feet.

Shoulder Injuries – Pain and limited movement in the shoulder joint, typically caused by soft tissue damage. You would most likely experience difficulty lifting your arm, a dull ache deep in the joint, or a “grating” sound when moving the arm.

Great place!

I had a great experience at PRO therapy. It’s a great mix of body work and exercise. It isn’t “a printout of your exercises and come back in two weeks” place. You do all the exercises in the gym with them each session so you know the correct form and how to do them on your own. I have really improved in my strength and my day to day pain has significantly reduced over my time there. My main PT was Dr. Kelvyn and he was great to work with. Very supportive and encouraging. He met me where I was at and didn’t make me feel bad if I couldn’t complete something. If I wanted to be seen but couldn’t get onto his schedule, I saw one of the other PTs and they were all equally great. It was seamless to work with someone else for the day. Jen and the other front desk staff were always very friendly and very helpful. I would highly recommend getting your physical therapy done here.

I worked with Dr. Kelvyn here for over a year and a half on multiple lower body injuries (ankle, knee, hip, lower back). He is the best physical therapist I’ve ever worked with, and unfortunately I’ve had the misfortune of working with a lot of PTs in my lifetime. I appreciated that he really listened to what I was coming in and describing feeling to him each session, and then he tailored the exercises we did together and the exercises he prescribed to do at home based on what I reported at the beginning of our session. He also did a good job of adjusting my at home exercises to my needs and preferences. Can’t recommend Dr. Kelvyn or PRO Therapy enough!

My experience with Grace was wonderful. I saw her for pelvic floor therapy and some general physical therapy and hip mobility. She listened very well to my concerns, was very educational and helped me understand why I was doing the exercises I was doing. I would highly recommend Grace and Pro Therapy.

Grace helped me strengthen my core to the point where my back feels so much better. She gave me excercises that I can do at home that don't require gym equipment.

Since my treatment, pain and mobility have greatly improved. Very appreciative of all the help.

I had two different doctors working with me and both were very good. They listen, have you try different moves, and are able to proceed to plan.

Excellent place with great people. Go to this place.
Dr. Lily met me where I was (post a major surgery and really weak - like barely able to stand/walk) with respect and accommodation. I was always challenged but at a safe pace. It took me a few months to see it, but they were working on the long game all the time and it paid off. I'm really happy with my recovery.

*p.s. - Don't be intimidated by the super hulk weight machines. I kinda was but almost nobody uses those. They utilize all sorts of un-intimidating equipment. Also, the location seems odd at first but it turns out to be very convenient.

I'll go back if I ever need more PT. 100%
