October is a month of transition. As green leaves give way to the vibrant orange hues of fall, it serves as a reminder that change is inevitable. But amidst the changing season, there is a constant: our health. Our bodies also change with the season, but our need for wellness does not.
And what better way to celebrate this journey towards wellness than by recognizing October as National Physical Therapy Month? Let’s discuss what National Physical Therapy month is, what we have going on here at PRO Therapy to celebrate and some free resources you can use.
What is National Physical Therapy Month?
National Physical Therapy month is celebrated by APTA (American Physical Therapy Association) every October as a dedicated month to recognize DPTs, PTs, PTAs, and students as well as spreading awareness of the benefits of physical therapy. 2023’s theme is “Value of PT.” As APTA describes it:
Its meaning goes beyond the costs savings of physical therapy to highlight the ways physical therapy improves quality of life.
This month at PRO Therapy, we will be celebrating physical therapy month by continuing our high level of care.
How Pro Therapy Celebrates the Value of PT
Physical therapy provides drastic quality of life improvements – the “value” is different for every person. For someone with arthritis pain in their knees, the value of PT is spending a worry-free afternoon walking around with their children and grandchildren. For someone with a recent hip injury, the value of PT is restored mobility. For an athlete, it’s being able to perform at some of the highest levels of competition, successfully and injury free.
At PRO Therapy we take all of these goals and focus on their outcomes. This stems from working with patients and understanding their specific goals, expectations and what their lifestyle is. It is always our goal to get to the root cause of any injury or discomfort and put together a plan that is driven to get to the outcomes our patients are looking for. Our approach is individualized to ensure each plan is specific to that person, that injury, and their outcome. That’s PRO Therapy’s value of PT.
Our key benefits of physical therapy are…
- Keeping You Active – So you can run after your kids all day, take your grandchildren to the park with ease, enjoy a nice round of golf, run or walk anytime that suits you.
- Staying Free From Painkillers – So you’re not always reaching in the cupboard for pills to ease the pain whenever it strikes, getting only a “quick fix” when you need a “permanent fix” – PLUS they’re no good for your long-term health, “mask” the pain and certainly don’t actually do anything to fix the problem.
- Helping You Avoid Dangerous Injections/Surgery – We’ll help you get to the root cause of what’s going on – so you don’t have to get to the point of having to face injections or surgery.
- Finding Out What’s Truly Wrong – We’ll help give you peace of mind and ensure that your problem is “corrected” and “healed” properly – also give you a set of exercises perfectly catered to you to help speed up recovery.
- Getting More Enjoyment Out Of Your Life – So you can enjoy quality time with family and friends that your daily aches and pains steal from you – also finally get a good night of sleep without constantly tossing and turning.
Basically, we love to help people just like YOU get back to living a life free from the curse of acute or chronic pain.

The Benefits of Regular Physical Therapy
A regular physical therapy plan can be massively beneficial to people of all ages, who want to reduce pain and improve their ability to move and function.
Let’s dive into some of the basics of how physical therapy can be beneficial, and why you should consider it before making the leap into expensive surgery or treatments.
Why Physical Therapy Is Your Ticket To A Pain-Free Life
You’ve heard of Physical Therapy. But how can it really help you? You have an ache. A pain. You slept/got out of bed wrong. Sat too long at your desk. You might have fallen, tripped, slipped, twisted your ankle, hit your back, landed on your arm wrong. Or maybe you were working out and felt something “tweak” while lifting. We’ve all been there! A physical therapist is an expert in movement, meant to help you move better – without fear of further pain or injury. We treat the root cause of pain rather than masking it with opioids.
How Do I Know if Physical Therapy is Working?
When you undergo physical therapy, it’s natural to feel anxious and uncertain about the progress you’re making. After all, you’re investing your time, energy, and money into this treatment, and you want to see tangible results. But how do you know if physical therapy is actually working – especially if it’s early on in your treatment?
It’s a question that many of our clients ask. Today, we’ll cover some of the signs that your physical therapy is working.
I’ve Got Some Pain, But Not Enough To Justify A Visit To The Doctor
Time is precious, and the last thing that we want to do with our time is waste it sitting at a doctor’s office being told that nothing is wrong. And worse, no one wants to pay for an expensive visit with a doctor only to be told “try rest, ice, ibuprofen and come back in two months if things don’t get better.” But did you know that you don’t need to go to your doctor? Minnesota allows direct access to a physical therapist.
Which Is Better for Back Pain: Physical Therapy or Chiropractic?
As a physical therapy clinic, we hear this question all the time: “is physical therapy better or is chiropractic better?” The word “better” is highly subjective, but generally what people mean by this is “which one is gonna stop my pain?” That too can be hard to determine, since both physical therapy and chiropractic are medical treatments all about reducing pain. So today, we’re going to answer that question the best we can. Both fields have their advantages, goals, and methodologies that make them unique.
10 Benefits of Sports Physical Therapy
When you’re active in sports, it’s important to take care of your body and listen to what it’s telling you. Ignoring pain and pushing past your limits is something you know you shouldn’t do – but it’s extremely common for athletes to do anyway. If you’re experiencing pain, facing an injury, or have hit a plateau in your performance, sports physical therapy can be the answer. It offers a few unique benefits to athletes.
